Men's Necklace Lengths: Choosing the Right Size

Men's Necklace Lengths: Choosing the Right Size

One of the most important decisions when choosing a necklace is the length. The most common lengths for men range between 20"-24" and land between the collarbone and pecs. I like to recommend 22" to fit most males. Below is more detail on the various size ranges.

  •  Choker (14-16 inches): Choker necklaces are typically worn close to the neck and are best suited for smaller neck sizes. (We don't offer this size, yet!)

  • Collar (16-18 inches): Collar necklaces sit comfortably at the base of the neck, making them suitable for most men. They are versatile and can be worn with a variety of outfits, from casual to formal. (18" is a nice option for flash in that it will be more visible)

  • Prince* (18-20 inches): Princess necklaces are slightly longer than collar necklaces and can be worn on or off the collarbone. They are ideal for layering and can create a bold look when paired with other pieces. (*commonly referred to as the princess size :p )

  • Matinee (20-24 inches): Matinee necklaces are the most popular length for men and are suitable for most neck sizes. They fall just below the collarbone. (You can not go wrong with a 20-24" for a male necklace, I generally recommend 20" for a smaller stature, 24" if you are larger, and 22" for everyone)

  • Opera (28-34 inches): Opera necklaces are a more dramatic length and are ideal for those who want to make a statement. (This is often worn over the clothing, it's a very urban look IMO -BH)

In conclusion, if you are stuck and want a standard male length, 22" is usually perfect. If you know you are a unique size, or know the exact look you want, anything from 18" to 32" is fair game!
